What We Do

The Election Funding Authority of NSW (the Authority) is a statutory body responsible for administering the provisions of the Election Funding Act 1981 (the Act). The Authority is responsible for dealing with:

  • registration of state and local government candidates and groups of candidates for election funding purposes,
  • claims for payment made by registered political parties, candidates and groups of candidates and for the reimbursement of election campaign expenditure at parliamentary elections,
  • declarations of political contributions received and electoral expenditure incurred. Declarations are lodged by registered political parties, groups and candidates who contest state and local government elections,
  • declarations of electoral expenditure incurred and political contributions received lodged by political donors, and 
  • claims for payment lodged by registered political parties for the purposes of political education.

The Authority has a number of other responsibilities including conducting research in relation to election funding, political contributions, electoral expenditure and other matters relating to the Act.

Services provided

The Election Funding Authority is committed to quality and the provision of services which meet the needs of our stakeholders’ requirements and legal obligations. The Authority seeks to perform its functions, activities and responsibilities impartially, effectively and efficiently.

Services include, but are not limited to:

  • provision of disclosure documents lodged by candidates, groups, parties and political donors
  • provision of registers of candidates and agents for elections
  • provision of election funding information
  • education programs for candidates, parties and political donors
  • publications.

Accessing disclosure documents

The Authority is required to make the declarations, claims for payment and any associated papers lodged by parties, groups, candidates and political donors available for public inspection at our office in Sydney.

Disclosure documents are available for inspection by appointment at our office in Sydney. The documents are made available for inspection up to 6 years after an election.

The Authority publishes reports on this website that summarise the information contained in declarations lodged with the Authority.

Alternatively, copies of disclosure documents for local government elections are available at your local council office.

The Authority may, upon written request, mail or fax copies of disclosure documents. Standard postage and fax charges apply for documents that are mailed or faxed.

Inspecting disclosure documents at our office is free. Photocopies of documents are provided at a charge of 50 cents per A4 page.

Disclosure documents lodged by candidates, groups, parties and political donors are made available for inspection no less than 6 months after an election.

Accessing the Election Funding Registers

For each state and local government election the Authority keeps a register of candidates and official agents. The Authority also keeps a register of party agents.

The Authority is required to make the registers available for public inspection at our office in Sydney.

Candidate and official agent registers for parliamentary elections are published in the NSW Government Gazette 2 weeks prior to a state election or by-election.

Registers for parliamentary and local government elections held from 2006 onwards are available on this website.

Alternatively, registers are available for viewing by appointment at our office.
